| For the Crewe open day in June 2003, 87002 was transformed into a giant practical joke by Virgin and Porterbrook. It was given a lovely "Revised Porterbrook" livery of purple and white. This brough with it the curse of long periods out of use (as with 55016) and it took almost a month to leave WN in passenger service. Personally, I think 90002 would have been a better loco to be repainted, it being a joke engine anyway! Despite the livery it became one of the stronger class members through 2005, at one point working for 31 days on the trot, and then provided the entertainment for the latter part of 2006 - see the "1G21 show" collection for more of that... |
